"Dance, Ballerina, Dance . . . "

I'm still working on the next section of recap, so to fill some time, please welcome Mr. Nat "King" Cole, singing the song Chris quoted to Cathy during their incredibly awkward semi-nude pool-party in Flowers in the Attic!

Fun Fact!  This song topped out at #18 on the charts in 1957, the year Flowers in the Attic begins.  Now you can imagine twelve-year-old ballet-obsessed Cathy playing this single over and over on her plastic portable record player and driving everyone in the family nuts.

  1. OMG I love you! I can't believe this is a real thing! I've been torturing my husband with the audio tapes because I couldn't get him to read the book. And when the lady (who is supposed to be Cathy narrating everything) sings "Dance ballerina dance!" it makes him crazy! And he has had to hear it a lot because he had to transfer the tapes for me and it's this long process. So he had to hear a good bit of it a couple of times before we started to listen to it regularly at bedtime. And since I fall asleep quite a lot after a good 20 minutes I have to replay it and he hears things over and over. It's so awesome to hear out loud though! Anyway she sings it right apparently, but it still sounds demented regardless! LOL! Thanks for that!

    1. I've been listening to some Stephen King audiobooks lately, and much to my disappointment, the narrator only reads the songs as opposed to singing them. Now I'm going to have to dig up the audiobook of Flowers to hear this.

    2. You should it's awesome! I have the Alyssa Bresnahan narration. According to her IMDb message board, she's a boring narrator. I have not heard her read other books but I think she makes a great Cathy. She sounds totally insane. I'm stuck on Tapes 9 and 10 out of 12 tapes. I was a little disappointed in her reading of Corinne's freak out guilt trip after the kid's didn't kiss her ass after being beaten and starved. But I have to cut her some slack since Alyssa probably wanted to blow her brains out by that point. I can't wait until I'm finally done because then I can finally get to the Petals on the Wind audiobooks I got for Christmas! This is the one I've been waiting for. It is also narrated by Alyssa Bresnahan. I also got another version by Donada Peters that my husband got me God bless him! You should have seen his face when he realized someone else got me a another version and he was going to have to listen to both! LOL! Anyway I'll let you know which one is better!
