It Has Begun: New 'Cathy" Cast for Lifetime's Petals on the Wind

Once Upon A Time's Rose McIver Cast in Petals on the Wind

I've never seen OUAT and I know nothing about Rose McIver, but from her photos she does bear a faint resemblance to Heather Graham minus the crazy eyes, so at the very least, it seems we're getting a good physical type.

So far we know that the Petals movie is set ten years after Flowers.  In book-time, this involves skipping over Paul, so I wonder if he's going to be in this at all or if we're going to get him in flashbacks to explain how the kids survived after their escape.  Lifetime doesn't generally get squeamish about sex, but Cathy and Paul's May/December romance (even if it's really more April/Labor Day romance) might cause some pearl-clutching.  I wonder if Julian's going to make it in?

If I squint, I could see how one might narrow the whole focus of the film to a straightforward revenge story, but let's face it: 90% of the book was Cathy's madcap romances with increasingly inappropriate men and it's going to feel empty if we don't get a peek at that.  And of course, it's all worth nothing if Cathy doesn't bleed on her feet.

  1. Overall, I think Rose is a better actress than Mommy Dearest. McIver was in that movie The Lovely Bones. She played Lyndsey Salmon (the sister of our murdered narrator Susie).

And she also had a recurring role in Showtime's series Masters of Sex playing the daughter of the University Provost. When she had to do scenes involving tears, etc. her acting seemed genuine. She didn't look like she'd dropped belladonna in her eyes like Graham.

And your right. If they want to go in for the revenge side of the story, they at least need to give us some good flashbacks involving some of Cathy's sexy-fun-times with Paul (preferably their first time, purely for that whole "huh what, come, come where?" response of hers, as well as her sexy-sinning under the Christmas tree with Big Brother. And the bleeding on her feet scene is a Must Show.

And thank you for your compliment several sections ago. I'm the "Anonymous" who accused Cathy of indulged in comfort sex with Chris while Julien was committing suicide in his hospital bed. The way I see it, that' s probably why he did it. Those two hardly meet the definition of discrete.

Julien probably heard them in there, realized that his wife wasn't a "pure, brand new virgin" when he got that ring on her finger, that Chris had done the honors there, possibly also faced the fact that Cathy had been banging Foster Daddy too and realized that his wife, was in fact, a bigger ho-bag than Yolanda.

Upon realizing that Cathy had made him look like the world's biggest douche/fool, he couldn't live with the knowledge and turned to the scissors. Snip! Turning Cathy into a sort of murderess just like Mommy Dearest. Only instead of Death by Donut, Cathy's was a sort of murder by proxy. Death by Chris Dick.

    1. While I think Julian probably figured out Cathy's relationship with Chris, his suicide had more to do with the fact that he'd been paralyzed in the crash than it did with Cathy's infidelity. Losing the use of his legs meant not only the loss of his mobility and livelihood, but also the loss of the last vestiges of his self-worth (as being a dancer was all his family had ever brought him up to know or care about).

While feeling unloved by Cathy may have exacerbated the situation, saying that Cathy murdered him is a bit over the top, even for this series, lol.

  2. I assume Julian will be in it in some capacity, especially if they are planning on also doing If There Be Thorns. No Julian would mean no Jory and the fact that Jory and Bart had two different fathers was always an important aspect of the two boys' relationship.

Plus, it just wouldn't be Petals on the Wind without some of Cathy's insane romantic choices. No ludicrous romances, no care.

    3. I'm sort of hoping they make it to Seeds of Yesterday, as it was always kind of my favorite (if only because holy crap are Cathy's kids superbly messed up, though Jory is probably my favorite male character in the series since, oh yeah, NOT AN ABUSER/RAPIST HOW NICE).

I don't want a Seeds movie because I think it will do it justice, of course, but because it would probably be a spectacular hot mess and I am.so.very.ready.for.that.yes.please.

    4. It would be so great if they'd just do the entire series, but I'm doubtful. If There Be Thorns was a less-than-popular book, and it's not as high-drama or iconic as the first two so there's less to work with. But if we could get through those other books...man, wouldn't a Garden of Shadows movie be great? Period costumes! Come on, Lifetime, everyone loves period costumes!

    5. It's funny because If There Be Thorns would be much easier to adapt, but, yeah, I'm not sure the interest would be there while with Seeds of Yesterday, the interest might be there, but it would be hard to adapt into a single film because it's the same as Petals in terms of subplots on top of subplots.

Oh man, Garden of Shadows would be great. However, I'm not sure I trust Lifetime to give us awesome period costumes. Expect 20s glamour, receive only plaster and poor backlighting.

    6. That swan bed broke all our hearts even more than the 80s movie one.
